COVID-19 Spectator Protocol for Freeport Parents
The Freeport Athletic Department must ensure that the guidelines for holding events are met. Any
action taken by spectators that jeopardizes the ability for the Athletic Department to follow
these guidelines will result in the removal of spectators from home events.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
• Due to the limitations on gatherings indicated in the Governor’s Executive Orders, no more than 100 people may be present at an event at the current time. That number includes all participants, coaches, managers, officials, athletic trainer, timer, scorekeeper, video, and other game day personnel.
• This includes the area “in and around” the Joan Benoit Samuelson Track and Field. It includes the area inside the fence where the bleachers are located. It also includes the entire fence line area that encircles the facility.
• As a result of this Executive Order, all Western Maine Conference and Freeport High School athletic contests will not be available for in-person viewing by any visiting team spectators.
• The restriction on visiting spectators is also in place with schools within the Southwestern Maine Activities Association (SMAA) and the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference (KVAC). Please know that every high school that we will be traveling to is not allowing visiting spectators and will be employing some type of ticketed system similar to Freeport’s.
HOME SPECTATORS: At the Joan Samuelson Track and Field
• Freeport High School will offer in-person spectator opportunities for Varsity Games only. Each varsity team member will be given ONE Varsity Game Pass, which will allow ONE person to be “in and around” the facility during the game.
• Freeport High School will not offer in-person spectator opportunities for any home games played by our First Teams or JV Teams.
ARRIVAL: At the Joan Samuelson Track and Field
• All spectators must come to the main entrance gate to get “checked in”.
• All spectators will use hand sanitizer as they enter the facility.
• Freeport parents/spectators will not be allowed into the facility until both the home and visiting JV teams have left the facility. Do not congregate around the entrance, maintain the required 6 feet of social distancing, and wear a face covering. There will be plenty of time for you to get into the facility before the start of the varsity game.
• Prior to arriving at the facility, parents will be required to take the COVID-19 Self-Assessment.
• Game personnel at the gate will ask to see your Game Pass and they will ask you if you have completed your COVID-19 Self-Assessment.
• For contact tracing purposes, each parent’s name and phone number will recorded and checked off on the attendance sheet at the main gate.
• All parents/spectators are expected to maintain the required 6 feet of social distancing at all times and wear a face covering during the duration of the game and while you are “in and around” the facility.
• The bleachers have been marked at 6-foot intervals. Please choose a seat where an “X” marks the spot.
• There are 60 “X” marks the spots in the bleachers and another 50+ colored zip ties indicating 6’ intervals across the top of the fence line in front of the bleachers. There is plenty of room to social distance.
• Parents/spectators are not allowed inside the track fence, on the track, or on the turf field at any time.
• At the entrance to the Morse Street School parking lot, there will be a sawhorse barricade indicating “No Spectators Allowed”. Spectating from the fence line by Morse Street School or parking lot or from the far sideline will not be allowed.
SENIOR GAME
• Should Freeport host a “Senior Game”, we will come up with a way for both senior parents to attend. We will have a list of senior parents taken from PowerSchool. One of the parents will still need to bring the Game Pass, the other parent will be checked off from our PowerSchool list.
POST GAME
• At the conclusion of the contest, parents should exit the facility immediately - do not congregate in the concourse waiting for your son/daughter to come off the field.
• Your son/daughter can meet you at your car in the parking lot, or if driving themselves, they will meet you at home.
CROSS COUNTRY: Home Spectators
• Meets will be held at the Hunter Road Fields Facility.
• Due to the large number of runners in any given meet, spectators will NOT be allowed inside or at the Hunter Road Field facility.
• Parents may drop off and pick up their son/daughter at Hunter Road Fields - please remain in your vehicle.
• Spectators may access the cross country trails from the other side of the course using the Pownal Road Fields parking lot or the Landfill Road leading to the transfer station.
• All parents/spectators are expected to maintain the required 6 feet of social distancing at all times and wear a face covering during the duration of the event and while you are “in and around” the cross country trails and Pownal Road Fields.
• The cross country course has the runners circling the Pownal Road Field area twice. Great spot for viewing.
LIVE STREAMING
• All home events will be live streamed using one of these links:

This is a working document and as we continue to gain more information these Protocols may be adjusted, revised, or adapted to the ever-changing environment.
We will also keep a close watch “on the math” with regards to how many spectators
we can allow at the facility given the Governor’s Executive Order of “no more
than 100 people may be present at an event at the current time”.
